Netscape Communicator 4.5 settings

What you need to get started:

Step 1

Open Netscape Mail (or Navigator).

Click on the Edit menu at the top, and click on Preferences.

Step 2

Click on the Mail and Newsgroups category.


Plain quoted text beginning with ">" is displayed with
When you reply to a message, the original text is displayed with these settings.

Display plain text messages and articles with
"Fixed width font" should be selected.

Play sound when messages arrive
When new messages arrive on your computer, a sound will play to let you know.

Remember the last selected message
When you close Netscape, it will remember what message you were looking at so that when you start it again, it will be where you left it.

Confirm when moving folders to the trash
When you delete a message, it will ask you if your sure.
If this is not ticked, it will simply delete the message without question.

Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications
You wont ever use MAPI with Ihug, so it doesn't matter if this is ticked or not.

Step 3

Click on the Identity category (you may need to click the + nest to Mail and Newsgroups).



Your name:
This is the name that will appear as "FROM:" on messages you send.

Email address:
Your e-mail address (something@concordnet.com.au)

Reply-to address:
If you wish people to reply to an address different from your email address, put it here.
Usually left blank.

Organization:
You may wish to put your company name here.
This may be left blank.

Signature file:
If you wish to add a text signature, put it in a text file and select it here.
This may be left blank.

Step 4

Click on the Mail Servers category.


Incoming Mail Servers:
This is your incoming mail server: mail.concordnet.com.au

Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:
This is your outgoing mail server: mail.tsn.cc

Outgoing mail server user name:
This should be blank.

Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoin messages:
This must be set to "Never"

Local mail directory:
This is the folder on your computer where your mail is stored.
There must be a valid folder in here or the program will not save your email.

Step 5

Click on the Newsgroups servers category.


Big untitled square (the top one)
You may have more than one newsgroup, but I'm only going to cover TSN News.

Ask me before downloading more than ... messages
If there are more than ... messages to be downloaded, it will ask you if you wish to download them all.
If this is unticked, all messages will be downloaded regardless of how many.

Newsgroup directory:
This must contain a valid directory.
This is where the news you read is kept.

Finish
