Recently ConcordNet was a sponsor at the annual charity golf day at Massey Park Golf Club. Our team of Bruce Love, Alvin Dixon, Don Workman and Trevor Summerville did not win the team event but Alvin Dixon was a major individual winner on the day.

Local charities received donations from the funds raised on the day. This year those charities were Legacy, The Royal Blind Society, The Exodus Foundation and Concord Meals on Wheels

CARMEL DEL DUCA ASKS - WILL YOU COME TO THE PARTY?

Former Mayor of the City of Canada Bay, Councillor Carmel Del Duca has applied to the State Electoral Offices, Local Government Registrar of Political Parties to change the name of an existing Political Party, "The Concord Community Voice for Concerned Residents" to The Australian Justice Party"

Cr Del Duca lost the race to be the Liberal Party Candidate for the State Legislative Assembly seat of Drummoyne. The Seat of Drummoyne is considered to be "up for grabs" due to the retirement of long time member, John Murray, MLA.

The question asked by the Concord Monitor is how does the Australian Justice Party fit into all of this? Any ideas, send us your views via email to the concordmonitor@concordnet.net.au

james matthews, Local Lad - national Champion

Local lad and student at Concord High School, James Matthews, is going from strength to strength with his athletic career.

At the recent All Schools Athletic Meet in Hobart he broke the 2000m-steeplechase record to become the National Champion in that event. He also came home with two other gold medals - 1st place in the 3000km run setting a new Meet record for that event and 1st place in the 1500m race.

James has been chosen for the Australian Youth Olympic Festival to be held in Sydney in January competing against athletes from Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.

His love of athletics began when he was 6 years old. He was a member of Western Suburbs Little Athletics Club who is still very supportive of James. These days he runs with Illawong Athletics Club and is coached by his Dad, Robert. His entire family are behind James in his endeavours - they must be. He runs about six times a week, swims two to three times a week. Somehow he finds time to play cricket for grade sport in the summer and rugby union in the winter.

James has received a school blue this year for athletics and also the Most Promising Athlete trophy. He is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Andrew, who also won the award for Most Promising Athlete when he was in Year 7 at Concord High School. Andrew was also a 3000m and 1500m runner.

Keep going, James. Well done!

Ben Jones Pays Us a Visit

Former long-term Concord resident Ben Jones returned for a visit to Concord last week. He stayed with old friends, Bruce and Margaret Love, who organised social get-togethers and did some sightseeing around the local area. Ben was amazed by the residential development that has taken place in the Concord area since he retired to the NSW South Coast several years ago.

He is fondly remembered at Massey Park Golf Club where he is regarded by many as the "father" of the Club.
He was on the original committee that formed the Golf Club in the 1950s and was Club President for many years. Ben continued to play competition golf until his move to the South Coast to be with family and enjoy the quiet life.

During his stay Ben enjoyed a quiet ale and dinner with former golfing buddies and friends at Massey Park's excellent restaurant.
